1967 Land Rover Series II
There is an African proverb that says when an old man dies a library burns to the ground. I think the same could be said about these old Land Rovers (except for the death part, as ninety percent of ALL Land Rovers are still alive and kicking up fumes). I mean just look at this thing. It’s easy to imagine its biography being as rich as the Encyclopedia Brittanica - full of endlessly crazy stories through some of the most inhospitable landscapes on the planet. Yes, it’s as responsive and as comfortable as driving a tractor. Yes, the gears grind, the doors don’t seal and there are only two climate settings: freezing or frying. And yes, I am hopelessly and obsessively in love with it. I wish it was mine. Gotta talk to the wife. Thanks so much to Richard Roberts for letting me photograph his beautiful old man.
