Dr. Lovejoy's Porsche 356
DR. LOVEJOY’S 356 SPEEDSTER. Dr. Lovejoy is a retired orthopedic surgeon living in Jacksonville, Florida. He spent six years by himself resurrecting a barnyard-find into this bit of moving sculpture - which, while an extraordinary accomplishment for most mortals, doesn’t begin to describe how extraordinary this man is. A true humanitarian, he has spent a lifetime helping those who struggle with basic healthcare. Vietnam (while a Naval surgeon during the Vietnam War), the Philippines, Grenada and mostly recently in Haiti, Dr. Lovejoy has provided medical relief to the most impoverished of our planet - all of which has earned him the Humanitarian Award from the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons, an honor which he so clearly deserves. And if that isn’t enough, as his name would imply, he is a lovely man, and an absolute joy to be around. Kind, gentle, curious, he is the kind of man I hope to be when I am his age. Meeting people like Dr. Lovejoy is one of my biggest joys of being a photographer. I love it. And I love him.
