Before. After.

     I thought some of you might be interested to see a before and after shot of one of my images. This was shot in Dubai, and it shows you so very clearly how there is no such thing as a great image right out of a camera. The image on the left was straight out of the camera. The image on the right is with all the coloring and treatment done to create the feeling I wanted. Shooting is about composition and getting all the information. The post work is all about creating the mood you want. As Ansel Adams once said, "You don't take a photograph, you make it. The negative is comparable to a composer's score. The final print, as the result of working in the darkroom, is the music." (Not by any means is this comparable to any Ansel Adams photograph, by the way. Not even close.)
